Unintentional blogging hiatus

Maybe I should have made "update knitting blog regularly" one of my summer CPE (Clinical Pastoral Education) learning goals. But that doesn't have a lot to do with chaplaincy, so it's probably better that I didn't...

I've been tagged, for the first time ever - and I didn't even know it. I will post about that soon.

The blog name/domain is changing. I will let you know when I've got that all sorted and moved and what-not.

No, I have not blocked Icarus yet. Or the Swallowtail. But in spite of being exhausted from CPE, I am still knitting like mad. And I will post pictures soon, too. Honest.

Be well, knitting friends. Talk to you soon.

Icarus, before blocking

As requested by our friend miss ewe, here are some pics of Icarus (from Interweave Knits, Summer 2006), in various stages. It's amazing what one can accomplish when one should be writing term papers and studying for final exams...

Knit with Misti Alpaca on my new Addi Lace needles. Still waiting to be blocked - you'd think I'd have done something about that on my week off between classes and CPE, but nope!

Blogging about blocking

Time for my monthly post! And this time, it's going to be about my own knitting! (Sigh. I gotta get better at this blogging thing...)

A few weeks ago, the lovely and talented miss ewe helped me to block the lace scarf I knit for my MIL. It's a cat's paw lace pattern, taken from this free pattern, which I knit out of Misti Alpaca lace weight.

I had never blocked lace before, so it was an experiment, but it went pretty well.

We gave the scarf a little bath in cool water and wool-wash.

Phase 2: Pinning
miss ewe and I each pinned a side.

And here it is!

I'm quite pleased with the way it turned out. And so was my MIL!

A couple of days/weeks later (time is but a blur to me - I was in end-of-term hell and have no idea when I was procrastinating by blocking lace), I decided to block another lace project, a scarf from Victorian Lace Today. I knit it was Zephyr Laceweight Wool-Silk in Mahogany from Fiddlesticks Knitting. I love this yarn. Love. It.

I had help with the blocking this time, too...
Dizzy with Scarf

Dizzy wanted to give me a hand, but did not understand that he wasn't supposed to help by walking on the scarf!

Guard Duty

We talked about it, and he decided he would be most helpful if he guarded the scarf instead.

Ella waited until everything was pinned before coming to inspect my work.

And here it is!

Look at me! I'm Bamboo!

Once again, in lieu of actually tweaking the blog and posting about my own knitting, I give you - a quiz!

What kind of knitting needles are you?

You are bamboo.Warm, cozy, and thoughtful, you take your time and enjoy how things feel, smell, and taste. You love the craft and beauty of traditional things, and you value the comfort and experience of knitting as much as the results. But while you are reveling in your warm cozies, don't get stuck. Warm is wonderful, but so is the whole wide world!

Take this quiz!

Thanks to bip0larbear for the link.

Edit: I have no idea why the picture is so large. I'll try to fix it later...

Edit 2: I just got rid of the picture. It was driving me nuts...

Baby blogging steps...

Thank you, Knit Bloggers, for your comments and encouragement! :)

If I wait around trying to think of something witty, I'm never going to blog. So, even though I want to tweak the template and stuff, I'm just going to start.

And so, a quiz!

What kind of yarn are you?

You are Mohair. You are a warm and fuzzy type who works well with others, doing your share without being too weighty. You can be stubborn and absolutely refuse to change your position once it is set, but that's okay since you are good at covering up your mistakes.
Take this quiz!

Thanks to Mrs MJW for this.

Testing, Part 2

Okay. Time to go live. BUT... I need to change the name. (No matter how much I may want to keep my blogging life and my real life separate, this title may come back to haunt me.)

I'm working on something witty. I'll be back...
